⚖️ Thai 96.5% gold vs. 99.9% gold
Purity, colour, and how to compare prices.
Thai gold bars and jewelry are sold at a standard purity of 96.5% (about 23K), the benchmark set by the Gold Traders Association. Many other markets quote 99.9% (“24K”).
Converting the price
Thai prices are per baht-weight: 1 baht of bar gold = 15.244 g, 1 baht of jewelry = 15.16 g. To compare with 99.9% gold:
Pure-gold price per gram = bar sell price ÷ 15.244 ÷ 0.965
Colour and hardness
The small share of silver and copper gives Thai gold its warm orange-yellow tone and makes jewelry a little harder.
Selling it abroad
Buyers outside Thailand will test and pay for the gold content, often minus a fee. The easiest place to sell Thai gold is usually a Thai gold shop.
